Minor League Baseball Helps Keep Greenville Green
This year's Minor League Baseball Promotional Seminar volunteered with FoRR for their Charities Community Service Project on Tuesday, September 26. In partnership with the City of Greenville and FoRR, nearly 100 MiLB volunteers worked on an ongoing restoration project at Richland Creek which included removal of invasive plants (including knotweed, privet, and wild roses) and planting of native ecology. Volunteers prepped the banks with jute matting to stabilize the ground and planted over 750 native grasses and sedges.
Plants and supplies were purchased with grant money from Duke Energy and Minor League Baseball.
Thanks to the City for storing the plants, providing staff, and working at the event. The city will manage this site going forward by watering and weeding. A special thanks to Scott Drayton who helped lead the troops.
Thank you to Rick Huffman, onr of our board members and principal at Earth Design, who worked on this project by meeting with the city, developing a plan, helping order plants and supplies, and leading the troops.
Thank you to Trees Greenville for supplying the wonderful Kylie Stackis to help with the planting. Her professionalism and volunteer coordination was greatly appreciated! Trees Greenville may also plant some trees at this site later this year.
